2009 EDDY BROWN MEMORIAL METAL MATCH & 1st ANNUAL

IDAHO STATE STEEL CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIPS

On December 28, 2000 the man responsible for bringing the Steel Challenge Shooting event to Canada and the Northwest died of a massive heart attack at the age of 37 in his home in Cranbrook, BC. His name was Eddy Brown. The Gun Clubs and SPPL here in the Northwest, where Eddy had competed in the past, are holding the 9th Annual Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match. This year we are combining this Match with the 1st Annual Idaho State Steel Challenge Championship Match.

The Match will be held on July 25-26 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at the beautiful Fernan Rod and Gun Club. (directions are at www.frgc.org)

My name is Bill Sahlberg and I am this year’s Match Director and the Prize Table Coordinator. The Match format is following the Steel Challenge format and is now an official “sanctioned” SCSA event and can be found at www.steelchallenge.com on their calendar of events.

Applications can be downloaded at www.sppl.us, go to calender and click on EBMMM. We are recognizing the following divisions, Open, Limited, Revolver, and .22LR. We also have 25+ plaques to award competitors on Saturday. Saturday includes a Roasted Pig lunch, awards, and a random draw prize table.

Sunday from 9AM-3PM will be \”Man on Man\” pistol shootoofs in both Limited and Open class and awards will be given to the Top 5 in each class. For more info email Bill at thesahlberg7@webtv.net.

Thanks Bill, it sounds like a great time. See a slideshow presentation of last year’s match, by clicking the photo below!

Good news! Through the generous support of Springfield Armory, The Steel Challenge is now recognizing Production Division. This division will be available on the match application, available here. If you’ve already submitted your application, have no fear, you may send us a note indicating your desire to shoot this division and we will make the change. If you haven’t yet submitted your paperwork please consider doing so now. Only a few more weeks for discounted pricing!

Springfield Armory’s USPSA Production Division:
USPSA Production shall be governed by USPSA rules for firearm description and rule interpretation. USPSA Production entrants compete in the main event AND for additional Production overall awards. Failure to comply with SCSA’s “USPSA Production” rules and criteria shall result in disqualification from Production award consideration. The competitor would still be eligible for overall placement in the main event. USPSA Production will be awarding one Springfield Armory firearm for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner. A Springfield Armory firearm will be awarded by luck of the draw from all entries in this category. Only one gun per shooter may be won in USPSA Limited.

logoheaderForty million Americans enjoy the shooting sports annually. But for newcomers the biggest challenge is not knowing how to get started. In fact, our research shows 48,000,000 men and women are interested in shooting and are simply waiting for an invitation.

Getting the right introduction can ensure a quality experience and a lifetime of enjoyment. For many participants this introduction comes from friends, family members and acquaintances. For others the first step is to find a shooting range that offers introductory courses and quality instruction.

To that end, we will be offering First Shots classes at this year’s Steel Challenge World Shoot. For more information, or to register, please visit our registration page here: First Shots At Steel Challenge

Max Michel points to the margin of victory at the SCSA Nationals match in Titusville, Fla. Had he shot wide by another 1/10th of an inch, BJ Norris would be the victor. The SCSA Nationals is the premier match for the S&W Steel Series, administered by U.S. National Steel.

Many thanks to Milan Rifle Club for uploading scores! We’re looking for other SCSA clubs to follow suit so that we may grow the sport and help populate our ranking system. If your club doesn’t have a copy of the official SCSA scoring software please let us know so we can send one out to you. Thanks again to Milan Rifle Club for their support!

Official Website

The Steel Challenge website, much like SCSA, is growing and expanding to better meet the needs of this fantastic organization. We’ve added some great functionality including:

* Club Finder

Just visit our club info page, enter your zip code and find Steel clubs in your area. Any SCSA-affiliated club will show there. Use it to find a club near you or to find a club along your route while traveling for work or vacation. If you have to travel, you might as well have some fun doing it!

*Rulebook

Wondering just how to go about conducting your own steel matches locally? Download the SCSA Rulebook for rules and guidelines.

*Stages

Visit our SCSA Stage Library to download diagrams and dimensions of all SCSA approved stages. We’ll be adding more over time and if your club has a stage you think would make a good fit, by all means drop us an email. We depend on your input to grow the sport.

*Steel Resource Guide

Another facet of a successful local match is a good working knowledge of how steel works in a competitive shooting environment. To that end, we have the Steel Resource Guide, courtesy of Action Target. It contains useful information on the practicalities of working with steel targets as well as some guidelines on safety issues. You can download it from our Steel Resource Page.

*Steel Targets

We’re working closely with a couple of great steel target vendors to get exclusive deals for SCSA members and clubs. Keep an eye out on our Steel Resource Guide page for upcoming flyers with discounted package rates.

* Match Calendar

Once you’ve got the steel and the know-how, you’re all set to conduct a match! Our interactive match calendar is now active as well. If your SCSA-affiliated club has an upcoming match you can advertise it here. Just go to our match calendar page and follow the directions for posting.

*Results

Our results listing page is complete as well. Once you’ve conducted your match just upload your results here to share with the rest of the SCSA community.

*Scoring Program

Wondering just how to get those results in the first place? No fear! The SCSA Scoring Program is available to all SCSA clubs. It’s very user-friendly and will make scoring your local matches so much simpler. It interfaces well with our results posting page and is included in the cost of affiliation so there’s no additional expense to you and your club. We’ll be sending out the program to all SCSA-affiliated clubs this week, so watch for yours.

*Fancy a Hat?

Our store is now online. Order SCSA-related merchandise with the click of a mouse using our secure server. We’re starting off small, but we’ll be adding more merchandise as we grow.

*Not Yet A Member?

What are you waiting for? Visit our club info page for an individual or club application and more details. It’s quick, it’s easy, and the benefits just keep coming!

——————————————————————————————–

We’re pleased with the phenomenal growth of the organization and we value your input, patience and support as we work out all the kinks. We’ve got big plans for the future and would love for you to come along for the ride. Be sure to check back often for updates.
