2009 EBMMMOn December 28, 2000 the man responsible for bringing the Steel Challenge Shooting event to Canada and the Northwest died of a massive heart attack at the age of 37 in his home in Cranbrook, BC. His name was Eddy Brown.

The Gun Clubs and SPPL here in the Northwest, where Eddy had competed in the past, are holding the 10th Annual Eddy Brown Memorial Metal Match and the 2nd Annual Idaho State Steel Challenge Championship Match.

The Match will be held on July 31 & August 1, 2010 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at the beautiful Fernan Rod and Gun Club. (directions are at www.frgc.org) There is also a new campground just 200 yds away from the main gate to stay at.

My name is Bill Sahlberg and I am this year’s Match Director. The Match format is following the Steel Challenge format and is now a “sanctioned” SCSA event and can be found at www.steelchallenge.com on their calendar of events.

Applications can be downloaded at www.sppl.us, go to calender and click on EBMMM. Entry Fee is $75. We will recognize the following divisions, Open, Limited, Revolver, and .22LR. We have 25+ plaques to award competitors on Saturday. Lunch Saturday will be provided.

Sunday starting time is 9AM-3PM and will be ”Man on Man” pistol shootoofs, in both Limited and Open class, with awards given to the Top 5 in each class. Bring at least 100 rnds extra for these Shootoffs!

There was an article in the last issue of Front Sight Magazine which incorrectly identified the 2008 Colorado State Steel Championship as an “unofficial” match. The match was completely official and sanctioned by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association. A correction will also be posted in the next issue of Front Sight and our sincere apologies to the hard working folks in Colorado for this error.


SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — The Scholastic Steel Challenge (SSC) has named Action Target, a leading manufacturer of shooting range systems and equipment, as the official target of the new youth shooting program.

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — The Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA) announced that firearms maker Smith & Wesson has signed on as a major sponsor of the 2009 Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships. Including sponsoring Pendulum, one of the eight stages at the Steel Challenge, Smith & Wesson will also be the division sponsor for the Open Revolver, Iron Sight Revolver and Women’s divisions.
